Fifty years of piano hits, from 1970s glam rock to today's pop collaborations.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Elton John's world.
Elton John has sold more than 300 million records and, with lyricist Bernie Taupin, written some of the most played songs in the pop repertoire.
Reginald Dwight, a piano prodigy turned Elton John, strung together cult albums in the early 1970s — "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Rocket Man", "Tiny Dancer", "Your Song". Extravagant costumes, oversized glasses, unstoppable melodies: he defined a certain idea of pop spectacle.
His career spans decades: the soundtrack to The Lion King, the new recording of "Candle in the Wind" for Princess Diana (the best-selling single in history), then a return to the top of the charts in 2021 with "Cold Heart" alongside Dua Lipa.
His farewell tour "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" ended in 2023 after more than 300 dates. His festival appearances since are rare and treated as events.
