The New Zealand voice who overturned the codes of pop at just 16.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Lorde's world.
Lorde shook up global pop with a deep voice and an openly avowed refusal of glitz, from her teenage years.
Ella Yelich-O'Connor, known as Lorde, was born in 1996 in Auckland, New Zealand, and was spotted by a label very young for her singular voice.
"Royals", released in 2013 when she was only 16, became a worldwide phenomenon and won her the Grammy for Song of the Year — a minimalist anthem that stood in contrast to the usual opulence of American pop.
"Melodrama" (2017) confirmed her status as a reference of alternative pop, praised by critics as one of the best pop albums of its generation.
Since then, she has pursued a demanding career that refuses easy commercial compromises, between artistic pop and introspection.
