The Brazilian pioneers of thrash/death metal, carried by percussion and local roots.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Sepultura's world.
Sepultura is the band that put Brazilian metal on the world map, with a sound that blends thrash, groove and traditional rhythms.
Formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, Sepultura became one of the most influential thrash/death metal bands of the late 1980s. "Arise" (1991) and then "Roots" (1996) — the latter integrating percussion and indigenous chants — are references.
After the Cavaleras' departure, the band carried on with singer Derrick Green and a regular, respected discography. It has announced a farewell tour spread over two years.
At festivals, Sepultura plays to a loyal crowd — in Brazil, it's a national affair.
