The New York duo who took pop-EDM from viral buzz to the top of the world.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape The Chainsmokers's world.
The Chainsmokers turned a viral selfie hit into one of the most-listened-to pop-electro duos of the decade.
Formed in New York in 2012 by Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, the duo first became known in 2014 with "#SELFIE", a deliberately absurd hit that rode the selfie craze and broke into the charts worldwide.
The turn came in 2015-2016: "Roses" and then "Don't Let Me Down" (with Daya, Grammy for Best Dance Recording) established a more melodic, mainstream pop-EDM sound.
"Closer", with Halsey, became one of the global hits of 2016 — twelve weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 — and propelled the duo to first place in DJ Mag's ranking of the world's best DJs in 2017.
Since then, they have alternated solo productions and features with the biggest pop voices, without ever leaving the headline slots of the biggest general-audience festivals.
