The Canadian R&B voice who brought gospel soul back to the top of the charts.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Daniel Caesar's world.
Daniel Caesar dresses contemporary R&B in near-gospel harmonies, inherited from a childhood spent in the churches of his hometown.
Ashton Simmonds, born in 1995 in Scarborough, on the outskirts of Toronto, grew up in a family where gospel plays a central role — an imprint that runs through all his music.
His first album, "Freudian" (2017), carried by "Get You" (with Kali Uchis) and praised by critics, established him as one of the most original voices in alternative R&B of his generation.
"Best Part", a duet with H.E.R. from the same album, earned him a Grammy and became one of the most-streamed R&B tracks of the decade.
Since then, he has alternated solo albums ("CASE STUDY 01", 2019) and collaborations with the biggest names in the genre, without ever leaving the formula that became his signature: intimate soul, almost whispered.
