The Berlin punk-rock trio who proclaim themselves "the best band in the world" and have ruled German rock since 1982.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Die Ärzte's world.
Die Ärzte is punk rock and pop punk with plenty of humour, an institution of rock in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
The band formed in West Berlin in 1982 around Farin Urlaub (guitar, vocals), Bela B (drums, vocals) and bassist Hans Runge. It split in 1988 after a live album, then reformed in 1993 with Rodrigo González on bass.
Its first album, "Debil", dates from 1984; the band is today very popular in German-speaking countries, and far less known elsewhere. It ironically presents itself as "the best band in the world" ("Die beste Band der Welt"). In 2003, it won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best German Act.
The band is known for its mix of punk, pop, ska and alternative rock, and for lyrics between humour and social commentary. Recent records include "Hell" (2020) and "Dunkel" (2021). It is one of the announced headliners of Nova Rock, in Nickelsdorf (Austria), on 10–12 June 2027.
