A cartoon band that became one of the biggest rock/hip-hop/electro crossovers in the world.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Gorillaz's world.
Gorillaz dresses pop in a band that doesn't exist — four animated characters carried by a real army of featured artists, between rock, hip-hop and electronic music.
Created in 1998 by Damon Albarn (singer of Blur) and illustrator Jamie Hewlett, Gorillaz gives a face — 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel — to what is really a rotating collaboration between dozens of musicians and producers.
Their first album (2001) and "Clint Eastwood" launched the project, but it was "Feel Good Inc." (2005), which won a Grammy, that made it a generational phenomenon between alternative rock, hip-hop and cartoon aesthetics.
The band built a reputation for an address book with no genre borders: De La Soul, Snoop Dogg, Elton John and Little Simz have followed one another on its records, up to the most recent albums (Song Machine, Cracker Island).
On stage, real musicians play behind the giant projection of the four animated characters — a spectacle that fills stadiums and makes Gorillaz a recurring headliner at the biggest festivals.
