From viral bubblegum trap to the psych-rock turn that surprised all the critics.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Lil Yachty's world.
Lil Yachty built his career on sing-song choruses and a flashy pop aesthetic, before a rock turn that caught everyone off guard.
Miles Parks McCollum, born in 1997 near Atlanta, made his name through SoundCloud with "1Night", then "Broccoli" (with D.R.A.M.), a hit that established his sing-song flow and instantly identifiable bubblegum aesthetic.
A figure of the mid-2010s "mumble rap" wave, he strung together mixtapes and a first album ("Teenage Emotions", 2017) before becoming a pop personality in his own right, even walking the runway for Kanye West.
A total break in 2023 with "Let's Start Here.", a psych-rock album miles away from the hip-hop that revealed him — praised by critics as one of the boldest artistic turns of his generation.
