The Totnes band that turns tinkered electro into elegant, danceable pop.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Metronomy's world.
Around Joseph Mount, Metronomy makes an elegant electronic pop, between analogue synths and groove.
Metronomy was founded in 1999 by Joseph Mount in Totnes, Devon, at first as a solo project of homemade electro, before becoming a real band with Anna Prior, Oscar Cash, Olugbenga Adelekan and Michael Lovett.
After Nights Out (2008), which blends electro and pop, it was The English Riviera (2011), nominated for the Mercury Prize, that opened the mainstream to them: a sunny, melancholic record, with the hit "The Look".
The band cultivates a recognisable trademark there: round basslines, vintage synths, light melodies and an unapologetic taste for irony.
On stage, Metronomy plays as a full band, in matching outfits and discreet choreography, for a live show that is both danceable and highly polished.
