Arrive fresh in Lyon.

Lyon's electronic culture festival, over the Ascension weekend. Five days and five nights in the city's industrial wastelands — La Sucrière, Les Grandes Locos, former factories — with ~200 artists, concerts by day and clubbing by night. Launched in 2003. Next edition May 2027 (24th, dates to be confirmed).
Nuits Sonores was born in 2003 in Lyon, run by the Arty Farty association. Its idea from the start: use electronic music as a reason to reclaim the city's industrial heritage. Every year, over the Ascension weekend, the festival sets up in wastelands and unusual venues — La Sucrière at Confluence, the former Grandes Locos factory, renovated warehouses and halls. The format is twofold: “Nuits Sonores Days” in the afternoon and evening (concerts, live sets, new discoveries) and “Nuits” until the early morning (clubbing, DJ sets). Nearly 200 artists, an audience from across Europe.
Alongside the paid stages, a large part of the lineup is free and open to the city: Nuits Sonores Extra! takes over squares, courtyards and cultural institutions with concerts, talks and screenings, on the theme of independent culture and partying as an urban phenomenon.
Mid-May in Lyon, the weather is uncertain: 12 to 24°C, often rainy. Since the festival mostly happens inside industrial halls, that's manageable — but bring a jacket for getting around and queuing, and comfortable shoes (there's a lot of walking and dancing, on concrete).
