The world-reference electronic and avant-garde festival, in Barcelona, mid-June. Three days split between "Sónar by Day" and "Sónar by Night," more than 120,000 festival-goers, a lineup exploring the fringes of electronic music and a creativity/technology strand. Created in 1994. Next edition June 17 to 19, 2027, for a 34th edition.
Sónar was born in 1994 in Barcelona, founded by Ricard Robles, Enric Palau and Sergi Caballero with the ambition of dedicating a festival to electronic music, creativity and technology. The format is unique: "Sónar by Day" runs over three days at the Fira Montjuïc, with concerts, installations and the Sónar+D professional strand; "Sónar by Night" takes over in the evening at the Fira Gran Via, in a more clubbing format. More than 120,000 festival-goers, a very international crowd, and a lineup known for exploring the fringes of the electronic scene rather than sticking to the obvious headliners.
Sónar+D, the festival's professional strand since 2013, brings together talks, tech demos and gatherings around digital creation — Sónar is as much a gathering for musicians as for creators, researchers and entrepreneurs. The festival's highly graphic visual identity is part of its reputation.
The site is urban with no camping: you stay in Barcelona and reach the Fira Montjuïc by metro by day, then the Fira Gran Via by evening for Sónar by Night (shuttles or a taxi recommended, the two sites aren't next to each other). By mid-June, Barcelona is already warm and sunny.
