The Swedes who turned Viking mythology into stadium-sized melodic death metal.
Biography.
The journey and inspirations that shape Amon Amarth's world.
Amon Amarth plays melodic death metal fed by Viking mythology, with Johan Hegg's deep voice.
Formed in 1992 in Tumba, Sweden, the band takes its name from the Sindarin name for Tolkien's Mount Doom. Its lyrics draw on Viking mythology and history, which has seen it filed under Viking metal, a label the band itself rejects.
"Twilight of the Thunder God" (2008), its seventh album, brought it to the mainstream, in Sweden and abroad.
"Deceiver of the Gods" (2013), "Jomsviking" (2016), a concept album about the Jomsviking mercenaries, and "Berserker" (2019) confirmed its status as a headliner at metal festivals.
