ROCK AMRING

One of Germany's two biggest rock festivals, early June 2027 at the Nürburgring circuit, in the wooded hills of the Eifel: three days, around 90,000 people, and a twin festival playing the same lineup in Nuremberg the same weekend.

Rock am Ring 2027

The Rock am Ring festival.
In a nutshell.

Rock am Ring takes place in early June 2027 at the Nürburgring, a legendary racetrack set in the wooded hills of the Eifel, in Rhineland-Palatinate. Created in 1985, it's one of Germany's two biggest rock festivals — the other being its twin, Rock im Park, held the same weekend in Nuremberg with exactly the same lineup. The artists shuttle back and forth: one day at the "Ring," one day at the "Park." Together, the two draw close to 200,000 people.

The lineup is a broad panorama of rock: hard rock and metal, punk, alternative rock, a few more pop-leaning headliners. Three big stages run back to back at the Nürburgring, plus secondary stages for discoveries. It's a festival of tradition, with favourite bands returning almost every edition, and a very loyal German crowd pitching their tents in the paddocks and the meadows around the track.

Camping is part of the setting: huge, loud, festive, spread across the areas usually reserved for racing cars and Grand Prix spectators. You arrive Thursday, leave Monday. The Eifel in June can offer full sun just as easily as three days of rain and fog — the altitude (600m) keeps nights cool and mud frequent. Boots and warm clothes are a must, whatever the forecast says.

The twin concept

Two cities, one lineup

Rock am Ring (Nürburgring) and Rock im Park (Nuremberg) take place the same weekend with the same lineup. Artists alternate between the two sites.

The venue

A legendary racetrack

The Nürburgring and its "Nordschleife" are an icon of motorsport. The festival takes over the paddocks, grandstands and meadows around the track.

Camping

A tent city in the Eifel

Spread across the Grand Prix car parks and hills. You arrive Thursday, leave Monday. Loud, festive, very German.

What to pack

Mountains: cold at night, rain possible

The Eifel peaks at 600m: cool nights (around 8°C), fog and showers frequent even in early June. Boots, fleece, raincoat, warm sleeping bag.

Budget

The festival ticket (€272) only covers the concert area: camping with parking starts at €89, Power Camping at €159. Add the flight or train to Cologne or Frankfurt, then the car or shuttle to the Nürburgring, plus food.

Accessibility

Rock am Ring has a "barrierefrei" scheme: accessible camping, platforms at the stages, companions, a help point. Register in advance with the dedicated team.

TransportThe Nürburgring sits in the middle of the Eifel, with no train station: go via Cologne or Frankfurt, then car or shuttle.
By plane
Cologne-Bonn (CGN, ~1h15) or Frankfurt (FRA, ~1h45) airports, both well linked to Paris, Geneva and Brussels. Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) is closer but less served.
Train + shuttle
Train to Cologne or Koblenz, then a regional train to the Eifel (Ahrweiler, Mayen, Gerolstein) and an official shuttle to the site.
By car
From Paris or Brussels, 4 to 5h by road. A1, A48, A61 motorways, then signposted country roads. Camping car parks around the track, queues on arrival and departure.
Carpooling
Very widespread in Germany (BlaBlaCar, festival forums). Often the simplest way from the country's big cities.

AccommodationCamping is the norm; indoor accommodation in the Eifel is rare and fills up fast.
The campsite
Included in the camping pass, on the Grand Prix car parks and meadows. Premium options: 'Caravan Camping', quiet zones, pre-pitched tents, camper van pitches. Arrive early on Thursday.
Indoors
A few hotels and guesthouses in Adenau, Nürburg and the Eifel villages: few, expensive and booked months ahead during the festival.
Cities
Staying in Cologne or Koblenz and driving is possible but long (1h15 to 1h30 each way), and day parking is limited.
Gear
A sturdy tent (altitude wind), a warm sleeping bag, a tarp, boots. Nights are cold even in early June.
See places to stay →
DestinationThe Eifel is a region of extinct volcanoes, lakes and forests, between the Rhine and the Belgian border.
Next door
The Eifel National Park, the maar lakes (craters), the Ahr valley and its vineyards, the Roman city of Trier 1h to the south.
Cities
Cologne (cathedral, Rhine, old town), Koblenz and the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, Bonn — all 1h or 1h30 away.
Weather
Early June in the Eifel: 10 to 20°C by day, nights around 8°C, frequent rain and fog because of the altitude.
