ELECTRICPICNIC

Ireland's biggest festival, every late August at the Stradbally Hall estate (County Laois): indie, electronic and pop music across a dozen stages, plus cinema, comedy and wellness — the “something for everyone” spirit since 2004. 2027 edition already sold out.

Electric Picnic 2027

The Electric Picnic festival.
In a nutshell.

Electric Picnic has taken place every late August since 2004 at Stradbally Hall, a private estate in County Laois owned since Tudor times by the Cosby family — in fact, Thomas Cosby himself launched the festival. Having become Ireland's biggest festival event, it now draws around 80,000 people over three days, with the 2027 edition, like the two before it, sold out before the lineup was even announced. Comparisons to Glastonbury come up often: the same ambition to offer far more than music, on an estate that also has its own woods, lake and little steam train.

Here, the lineup isn't limited to a handful of concert stages: Electric Picnic boasts a good dozen spaces, from a cinema open 24/7 to the Comedy Tent, by way of the Body & Soul arena — wellness, art, tarot, deck chairs — and the Freetown district, dedicated to electronic nights. On the music side, the lineup unapologetically blends indie and alternative rock, mainstream pop and electronic headliners: in 2026, Fontaines D.C. (the Dublin indie band that's become almost the festival's emblem), Gorillaz and Lewis Capaldi shared the three nights of the Main Stage.

The Stradbally estate, with its woods and lake, suits the boutique camping spirit the festival is known for: family zones, glamping, hobo camping, each with its own vibe. The flip side of this popularity is that you now need to move fast: 2027 tickets sold out in a matter of hours, without a single headliner announced — a bet on trust rather than the lineup.

Electric Picnic in practice

Profile of the festival.

Capacity, atmosphere, crowd, hours and on-site budget: the full profile of Electric Picnic 2027 before you get your tickets.

Since 2004

Ireland's biggest festival

Launched in 2004 by Thomas Cosby on the family estate, starting with 10,000 festival-goers and reaching around 80,000 today — Ireland's answer to Glastonbury.

Lineup

Indie, electronic and pop combined

No single genre: in 2026, Fontaines D.C. (Irish indie), Gorillaz and Lewis Capaldi shared the three headline nights, with a dedicated electronic district (Freetown) on the side.

Far more than music

Cinema 24/7, comedy, wellness

A dozen non-musical spaces: a cinema open day and night, the Comedy Tent, the Body & Soul arena (yoga, tarot, workshops), at the heart of the festival's “something for everyone” identity.

The estate

Stradbally Hall, owned by the Cosbys

A private estate in County Laois, in the same family since Tudor times, with its woods, its lake and the little steam train of the Stradbally Woodland Railway, which also runs outside the festival.

Sold out before the lineup

2027 already sold out

2027 tickets sold out within hours of going on sale, before a single artist had been announced — trust in the brand rather than the lineup.

What to expect

Late-August Irish weather, bring a raincoat

Late August in Ireland: 14 to 19°C, frequent showers, cool nights under canvas. Boots or wellies come in handy if the ground gets waterlogged, as on most big British and Irish festivals.

Practical info.

Dates, hours, transport and lodging: what you need to know before you go.

2027 tickets: sold out

Tickets for the 2027 edition (August 27–29) have been sold out since early September 2026, before the lineup was even announced — an official resale may reopen later, but nothing is guaranteed. Watch electricpicnic.ie and the official ticketing partner rather than unauthorised resale.

Dates and early entry

Festival runs Friday August 27 to Sunday August 29, 2027. General camping opens Friday at 9am; an Early Entry pass (on top of the weekend ticket) allows arrival from Thursday August 26 at 4pm to pitch a tent before the crowds.

Cashless payment

Bars, stands and shops on site only accept card — no cash areas at all. Bring a working card (or a loaded contactless payment method) and a portable phone charger.

Access and transport

Irish Rail train to Portlaoise or Portarlington, then an official shuttle to the site. By car, strictly follow event signage (GPS often directs toward closed roads or diversions during the festival).

Accessibility

Dedicated accessible camping with raised platforms and refrigerated storage for medication, by prior registration with the organisers (access@electricpicnic.ie). An essential companion can be approved in advance.

TransportDublin is the real gateway: international airport, then about 1h30 by road or train to Stradbally.
By plane
Dublin Airport, the only real air gateway — direct links from Paris (~1h50), London (~1h15), Amsterdam (~1h35) and most big European cities. Then allow about 1h30 by road to Stradbally (County Laois).
By train
Irish Rail serves Portlaoise and Portarlington, the two stations closest to the site, with official shuttles to the festival from each (separate shuttle ticket, on sale on site or in advance).
By car
Follow only the event signage from the M7 motorway — Google Maps and regular GPS often route to closed roads or diversions during the festival, on the Garda's recommendation.
Drop-off
A dedicated PUDO zone on the north side of Stradbally, on the N80, for drop-offs and pick-ups by car or carpool. Private coaches and buses must register there in advance.

AccommodationFestival camping remains the immersive option; Portlaoise and Dublin are the comfortable choice for those who prefer a bed.
The festival campsite
Included in the weekend ticket, with several moods to choose from: general camping, family zones, glamping and a cheaper 'hobo camping'. The Early Entry pass (Thursday 4pm) lets you set up before Friday's rush.
In Portlaoise
The closest town with a real hotel offering, about 15 minutes from the site by car — handy for sleeping in a bed without going far.
In Dublin
The widest choice of hotels and rentals, about 1h30 by road from Stradbally. Requires a daily commute if you don't stay on site, but remains a logical base when arriving by plane.
Book early
Premium camping and hotels around Stradbally go fast once tickets go on sale, especially when the edition sells out within hours as in 2027.
See places to stay →
DestinationThe Stradbally Hall estate can also be visited outside the festival, and Dublin is just 1h30 away by road.
The estate itself
Woods, a lake and the little steam train of the Stradbally Woodland Railway, which runs on some weekends outside the festival — the estate has belonged to the Cosby family since Tudor times and also hosts the National Steam Rally.
Dublin
About 1h30 by road: Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the Guinness Storehouse, the Temple Bar district — an easy stay extension before or after the festival.
Usual weather
Late August in Ireland: 14 to 19°C, frequent, changing showers, cool nights. Waterproof gear is never a luxury, even in kind years.
