Canada's biggest music festival, at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, on an island in the St. Lawrence, in late July. Three days, ~150,000 festival-goers, a very broad indie/pop lineup with the Montreal skyline as a backdrop. Launched in 2006. Next edition July 30 to August 1, 2027.
Osheaga was born in 2006 at Parc Jean-Drapeau, on Saint Helen's Island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River — the site of Expo 67, today a big urban park with the Montreal skyline as a backdrop. In under twenty years, it has become Canada's biggest music festival: three days in late July, ~55,000 people a day, more than 100 artists across several stages, a very broad indie/pop lineup ranging from stadium headliners to new discoveries.
The site is urban with no camping: most festival-goers stay in Montreal and reach the island by metro. The atmosphere is bilingual, French and English blending naturally — fairly unique among big North American festivals.
Late July in Montreal, summer is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The site is on the riverfront: some breeze, but also a good dose of direct sun on the park's lawns.
