ROSKILDE

Roskilde 2027

The Roskilde festival.
In a nutshell.

The Roskilde Festival takes place in late June 2027 on the Dyrskuepladsen plain, south of the small town of Roskilde, half an hour by train from Copenhagen. It's Northern Europe's biggest festival, and one of the most singular: created in 1971, it's been run since 1972 by a non-profit foundation that gives all its profits to cultural and humanitarian causes, and it runs thanks to tens of thousands of volunteers. The festival lasts eight days: four "warm-up" days where the campsite is already a party, then four days of concerts.

The lineup is a manifesto of eclecticism: rock, electronic, hip-hop, world music, metal, experimental, with world-class headliners on the Orange Stage — the orange big-top stage bought from the Rolling Stones in 1978, now the festival's emblem — and dozens of discoveries on the smaller stages. Roskilde owns booking what few others would dare, and its crowd follows.

Camping is part of the identity: 80 hectares, a pop-up town with its own neighbourhoods, improvised saunas and its famous naked run. The atmosphere is known for being welcoming and very well organised. The 2000 tragedy, when nine people died crushed in front of the stage, deeply marked the festival and pushed it to reinvent crowd safety in the pits — standards adopted across Europe since. Late-June Danish weather: long days, 20°C, and showers that give no warning.

Profile of the festival.

Capacity, atmosphere, crowd, hours and on-site budget: the full profile of Roskilde 2027 before you get your tickets.

The model

Non-profit since 1972

The Roskilde Foundation gives all its profits to cultural and humanitarian projects. The festival runs thanks to tens of thousands of volunteers.

Lineup

Eclecticism as a principle

Rock, electronic, hip-hop, metal, world music, experimental. World-class headliners and a mass of discoveries few festivals would dare book.

The Orange Stage

The Rolling Stones' big top

The main stage is an orange tent canopy bought from the Stones in 1978. Its silhouette has become the festival's logo.

Eight days of camping

A pop-up town

Four warm-up days before the concerts: the 80-hectare campsite is a party in its own right, with its own neighbourhoods, saunas and traditions.

What to pack

Nordic summer: long and humid

Late June in Denmark: 18 hours of daylight, 15 to 22°C, frequent showers, cool nights. A sturdy tent, boots, raincoat, warm sleeping bag, sleep mask.

Budget

Ticket DKK 2,650 (~€355) + travel

The "full festival" ticket covers the eight days and camping. Add the flight or train to Copenhagen, the regional train to Roskilde, and Denmark's high cost of living.

Roskilde 2027 practical info

Practical info.

Dates, hours, transport and lodging: what you need to know before you go.

Dates and schedule

From Saturday 26 June to Saturday 3 July 2027 (dates announced by the organisers). Camping opens on a Saturday; four warm-up days follow (evenings on the camping stages), then four days of concerts from Wednesday to Saturday.

Tickets

"Full festival" ticket (8 days + camping) at DKK 2,650 (about €355, fees included); 2-day ticket DKK 2,230; day ticket DKK 1,530 (Wednesday to Saturday). "Smart Ticket": eight instalments of DKK 327 + DKK 100 fee (DKK 2,720 in total). Sold on roskilde-festival.dk. Premium camping spots, "Get A Tent" and motorhome pitches booked separately.

Payment

Cashless via a rechargeable wristband, or contactless card directly (Denmark is nearly cashless). A deposit on cups. Free drinking water everywhere.

Access and transport

Train to Roskilde station (30 min from Copenhagen, 15 min from the airport with a connection), then free shuttles or a 25-minute walk to the site. Extra trains run at night during the festival.

Accessibility

Roskilde has a full accessibility scheme: adapted camping, platforms, companions, sign-language interpreters on request, a help point. Register in advance.

TransportRoskilde is half an hour from Copenhagen by train; the airport is very well connected.
By plane
Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport (CPH), direct flights from Paris, Geneva, Brussels and most capitals. From the airport, a direct train or via the central station to Roskilde (~40 min).
By train
From Copenhagen, trains every 10-20 min to Roskilde (~25 min). Then a free festival shuttle or a 25 min walk to the site. Reinforced night trains during the event.
From Europe
Night or day train from Hamburg (~4h30), or from Sweden via the Øresund bridge (Malmö 1h away). The low-carbon option is realistic.
By car
Motorway from Copenhagen, paid car parks near the site to book. Not very useful given the quality of the train.

AccommodationCamping is part of the ticket and the experience; the alternative is staying in Roskilde or Copenhagen.
Camping
Included in the full festival ticket. General zones, or more comfortable options: 'Get A Tent' (pre-pitched tent), quiet camping, 'Clean Out Loud' (eco-friendly camping), camper van pitches.
Roskilde town
A few hotels and rentals in the town, a 25 min walk or a bus stop from the site. Few, to book very early.
Copenhagen
Staying in the capital and taking the train back and forth is entirely viable (25 min), especially if you only come for concert days.
Gear
Everything must be brought for camping. Stands resell the essentials on site, and the festival encourages you not to leave your gear behind.

DestinationDenmark suits a Copenhagen city trip combined with a cultural stop in Roskilde.
In Roskilde
The cathedral (UNESCO heritage, necropolis of Danish kings) and the Viking Ship Museum, by the fjord — real visits to fit around the festival.
In Copenhagen
Nyhavn, the Tivoli gardens, Christiania, the food scene and harbour baths. The city is done entirely by bike.
Weather
Late June in Denmark: very long days (night barely dark), 15 to 22°C, wind, frequent showers. Pack warm for the evening.
