Hurricane Festival's southern German counterpart, on a former military airfield in Baden-Württemberg. Three days, around 60,000 festival-goers, and a lineup nearly identical to Hurricane's the same week — artists shuttle between the two ends of the country.
The Southside Festival takes place every year on a former military airfield near Neuhausen ob Eck, in southern Baden-Württemberg. Created in 1999 as Hurricane Festival's southern German counterpart, it brings together around 60,000 people over three days, with a lineup nearly identical to its northern twin's the same week — artists alternate between the two sites, one day in the south, one day in the north. Together, Hurricane and Southside draw more than 130,000 festival-goers every year.
The lineup mixes rock, pop, indie, hip-hop and electronic across several open-air stages, with the same big international headliners as Hurricane — it's exactly this mirror effect that makes Southside distinctive: two separate festivals, one single tour for the artists. The crowd stays overwhelmingly German and Swiss, and for three days the site lives as a tent city set on a former military ground.
As at Hurricane, standard camping is included in the 3-day pass, with quieter or more comfortable options available. Proximity to Switzerland and Lake Constance gives Southside a slightly more international crowd than its northern twin. On the weather front, mid-June in southern Germany can be sunny or rainy — better to bring something warm just in case.
