HURRICANEFESTIVAL

One of Germany's biggest all-genre festivals, at the Eichenring circuit in Scheeßel, deep in the Lower Saxony countryside between Hamburg and Bremen. Three days, more than 70,000 festival-goers, a broad lineup spanning rock to electronic by way of hip-hop — and a strict twin, Southside Festival, playing the same lineup the same weekend at the other end of the country.

Hurricane Festival 2027

The Hurricane Festival festival.
In a nutshell.

Hurricane Festival takes place every year at the Eichenring, a racing circuit set in the Lower Saxony countryside, between Hamburg and Bremen. An earlier rock festival had already been held on this site in the 1970s, but it was in 1997 that Hurricane was born under that name, with around 20,000 festival-goers. It has kept growing ever since, now topping 70,000 people (more than 80,000 in 2022), becoming one of Germany's biggest all-genre festivals. Its quirk: a strict twin, Southside Festival, held the same weekend at the other end of the country, in Neuhausen ob Eck, with an almost identical lineup — artists shuttle back and forth, one day north, one day south.

The lineup blends rock, pop, indie, hip-hop and electronic across several open-air stages, with a clear leaning toward big international headliners — the festival also holds a special place in rock history: David Bowie gave what would remain his very last concert there in 2004. The crowd is overwhelmingly German and loyal, and for three days the site lives as a tent city spread across the circuit's lawns.

Standard camping is included in the 3-day pass — unusual compared to many European festivals — with quieter or more comfortable options available. Since 2026, everything is paid for on site via a rechargeable chip wristband: no more cash or card at the stands. As for weather, it's deep June in northern Germany: days can be mild, but nights are cool and rain is always possible, so it's worth packing something warm even in summer.

Hurricane Festival in practice

Profile of the festival.

Capacity, atmosphere, crowd, hours and on-site budget: the full profile of Hurricane Festival 2027 before you get your tickets.

Lineup

Rock in the broad sense, open to everything

Rock, pop, indie, hip-hop and electronic cross paths across several open-air stages. A festival of big international headliners, more all-genre than its purely-metal or purely-rock cousins.

The twin principle

Same lineup, two ends of the country

Southside Festival (Neuhausen ob Eck, far south) is held the same weekend with an almost identical lineup. Artists alternate between the two festivals.

A moment in history

David Bowie's last concert

In 2004, David Bowie performed at Hurricane — it would be, in his lifetime, his very last concert. The festival has existed since 1997, on a site that already hosted rock concerts in the 1970s.

Attendance

From 20,000 to 70,000+ today

Hurricane has grown edition after edition since launching in 1997 (around 20,000 festival-goers) to topping 80,000 in 2022 — one of Germany's biggest music gatherings.

What to expect

Northern Germany: cool and changeable

Mid-June in Lower Saxony: potentially mild days but cool nights and rain always possible. Boots, a fleece and something to cover the tent are never overkill.

Budget

Pass from €199 (2026), camping included

Standard camping is part of the pass — unlike many festivals. Since 2026, everything is paid via a rechargeable chip wristband, no more cash or cards on site.

Hurricane Festival 2027 practical info

Practical info.

Dates, hours, transport and lodging: what you need to know before you go.

Dates and schedule

Three days, Friday June 18 to Sunday June 20, 2027. Camping opens ahead of the first concert and clears out Monday morning — no 2027 lineup announced yet.

Tickets

3-day pass with standard camping included (2026 reference: from €199, early bird €159). Upgrades available: quieter camping (“Green Camping,” ~€50), caravan spot (~€129). Sold at hurricane.de.

Payment

100% cashless festival since 2026: an RFID chip wristband, rechargeable in advance (card, PayPal) or on site at kiosks, is the only payment method accepted at every stand.

Access and transport

No train station on site: Scheeßel station is about 1.5km on foot from the entrance (Metronom regional trains, notably from Hamburg, hourly, ~50 min). By car, access via the A1 (Sittensen exit from the north, Elsdorf from the south/Bremen); a parking ticket is sold separately from the festival pass (2026 reference: €15 in advance, €20 on site).

Accessibility

The site provides dedicated access for people with reduced mobility (camping and parking close by, platforms at the stages). Advance registration recommended with the organisers.

TransportThe Eichenring is deep in the Lower Saxony countryside, between Hamburg and Bremen: train + shuttle or driving via the A1 are the two realistic options.
By plane
Hamburg (HAM, ~70 km) or Bremen (BRE, comparable distance) airports, both linked to Paris and major French cities. Then a regional train or car to Scheeßel.
By train
Metronom regional trains to Scheeßel station, about 1.5 km on foot from the site (~15 min walk) — from Hamburg, one train an hour, about 50 minutes' journey.
By car
Access via the A1: exit Sittensen coming from the north, exit Elsdorf coming from the south or Bremen. Parking ticket separate from the festival pass, to buy in advance to avoid the queue on site. Expect traffic jams on arrival and departure.
From Paris
No simple direct link: flight to Hamburg (about 1h40) then a regional train, or by road via the Netherlands/Belgium (about 7h30 depending on traffic).
See transport options →
AccommodationStandard camping is included in the pass — the norm for almost everyone — and the hotel offering around Scheeßel stays limited.
Included camping
Included in the 3-day pass, on the lawns around the circuit. Shared sanitary facilities, shuttles from the stations for the zones furthest from the entrance.
Premium camping
'Green Camping' upgrade for a quieter zone, or caravan/camper van pitch at extra cost — limited spots, to book with the ticket.
Indoors
Few hotels in Scheeßel itself; the offering is mainly in Rotenburg (Wümme) or the surroundings, quickly full during the festival and to book long ahead.
Gear
A sturdy tent, a warm sleeping bag and something to cover up even in June: nights in Lower Saxony stay cool and rain remains possible.
See places to stay →
DestinationScheeßel is a small rural Lower Saxony town; the area's tourist interest lies mostly around Hamburg or Bremen, under an hour away.
Next door
The Lüneburg Heath (Lüneburger Heide), with a very different atmosphere from the big cities, about half an hour by road.
Cities
Hamburg (Alster, harbour, old town) and Bremen (listed market square, the Town Musicians statue) are both reachable in a little over an hour.
Weather
Mid-June in Lower Saxony: days around 18-20°C, cooler nights, rain and wind possible even in summer — the oceanic climate of northern Germany.
