Portugal's big rock/pop festival, on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés, ten minutes from downtown Lisbon, in early July. Three days on the Tagus riverfront, ~160,000 festival-goers, regularly ranked among the world's best festivals. Launched in 2007. Next edition July 8 to 10, 2027.
NOS Alive was born in 2007 as Oeiras Alive!, on the Passeio Marítimo de Algés, a long esplanade on the Tagus riverfront ten minutes from downtown Lisbon. Renamed through its sponsors over the years (Optimus Alive!, then NOS Alive), the festival has built its reputation on a very strong international rock/pop lineup — it's regularly ranked among the world's best festivals by The Guardian, NME, Rolling Stone or CNN. Three days in early July, ~55,000 people a day, several stages facing the Tagus estuary.
The site is right on the water, with a view of the 25 de Abril Bridge and the Tagus estuary — one of the most beautiful settings on the European festival circuit, especially at sunset. The festival is known for its flawless organisation and friendly atmosphere, more relaxed than many big European festivals.
The site is urban with no camping: most festival-goers stay in Lisbon and reach Algés by train (the very frequent Cascais line) in about twenty minutes. In early July, Lisbon is hot and dry, with a welcome Atlantic breeze in the evening.
