Europe's rock/pop benchmark, at the Festivalpark in Werchter, Belgium, in early July. Four days, ~350,000 entries combined, a big on-site campsite and one of the continent's strongest lineups. Born in 1974. Next edition July 1 to 4, 2027.
Rock Werchter was born in 1974, first under the name Torhout-Werchter (two twin sites), then solo in Werchter since 1999. Bought by Live Nation in 2003, it moved to the four-day format that defines its current reputation: ~88,000 people a day, up to 149,500 different festival-goers across the whole edition, and a lineup that's a benchmark in Europe, from rock to pop to electronic to hip-hop. The 2025 edition celebrated the festival's 50th anniversary.
The Festivalpark in Werchter is a farm plain turned, for four days, into a small town: several stages, a huge campsite ("The Hive") with its own amenities, restaurants and entertainment. Many festival-goers live the full experience, from Thursday morning to Sunday night, without leaving.
The site is in the countryside, between Leuven and Brussels: shuttles and special trains connect the festival to Belgium's big cities. Early July weather in Belgium stays unpredictable — rain possible even in midsummer, bring boots and rain gear alongside your summer clothes.
